We invest in our state of the art technology both in the
consulting room and the optical laboratory.

Eyes and Optics has also invested heavily in the accurate dispensing of spectacles with our own in house laboratory and the latest Visioffice* computerised lens measuring systems. Visioffice* is a world renowned system developed by Essilor, the world’s largest Ophthalmic lens company.

Most spectacles are made on the premises which is old school and for very good reasons .... turnover and quality control! Some single vision options can be done on the spot, or at least the next day and we have 3 staff qualified to oversee their production.

Multifocal Spectacle Lenses

Inherent in any multifocal spectacle lens are distortions which are typically limited to the lower periphery of the lens. The minimisation of these distortions defines the various model and there are over 100 variants available on the market. Choosing the correct one and having it dispensed in the correct way is the key to success. Our favourite lens is the Varilux S which in conjunction with our Visioffice* has the capacity to be individualised for each patient. Essilor have a huge library of multifocal lenses and their warranty system allows us to swap and change to find the best solution. The lenses are available in all materials including transition, polarised, wrap and lightweight options.

Extended Focus Lenses

Since requiring reading glasses myself, I have discovered how great extended focus lenses are for everyday office life where most of my tasks are on computers, tablets and smartphones. These lenses are known as ‘Indoor multifocals’ and their widest vision is set at 80 cm, perfect for computer users. The key with these lenses is that they also have both moderate areas for distance and reading so perfect for meetings, interviews and reception. It is a growing segment within the Optical industry, so much so that companies like Nikon have released a whole series of ‘e life’ lenses.

Prevencia

Macular degeneration is one of the leading causes of blindness in the western world. There is a relationship with blue light and the incidence of macular degeneration and recently Essilor developed Prevencia*, a coating which filters the blue radiation from entering the eye. It is perfect for people who either have, or have a family history of any macular disease as this is one syndrome where prevention is better than the cure.

UV Protection

Ultra violet is implicated in the development of cataracts and there have been concerns regarding its role in Macular degeneration. In addition to this, 90% of skin cancers are above the neck with between 10 - 15% occurring in the skin around the eyes. Essilor’s crizal UV forte is a newly developed lens coating which has been recognised and endorsed by the Cancer council of Australia for its exceptional blockage of UV radiation. It is backed with a 2 year manufacturer’s warranty against crazing and scratching.

Essilor VisiOffice

Essilor is one of the largest if not the largest producer of spectacle lenses in the world. They are at the forefront of multifocal technology and with it’s strong partnership with Nikon together produce some of the most innovative lens designs in the market. Essilor’s visioffice is a computerised measuring system which enhances the fitting of specialist and multifocal lenses. It takes a series of photographs and calculates extra parameters such as frame wrap and frame tilt to customise the lenses to the individuals needs. If you’ve had problems adapting or finding your vision is ‘not quite right’ then this offers a solution.
