At Eyes & Optics, we value the health and eyecare of our patients above all else.

Eye ExamAt Eyes and Optics, we aim to enhance your vision by using the latest technologies to detect and diagnose underlying eye conditions such as glaucoma and macula degeneration.

We currently take 2-dimensional images of your eye with a camera as part of your medical records. The most recent addition is an Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) Scanning device, which is able to take a 3-dimensional image of the front and back of your eye.

The OCT scan allows us to visualise the previously unseen inner layers of your eye. Examining your eye without the OCT scan can be likened to diagnosing a broken arm without an X-ray. It therefore permits a far greater ability to discover and identify specific areas of visual concern, enabling us to start treatment where needed, as soon as possible.

Humphrey Visual Field Analyser

Visual field testing analyses the extent and quality of the peripheral vision important in tasks such as driving. Glaucoma, trauma, cerebrovascular accident (stroke) and some diseases affecting central processing (such as MS) may be associated with a characteristic visual field loss which automated perimetry can uncover. The Humphrey visual field analyser by Zeiss is the gold standard of automated perimeters with over 65,000 units worldwide and when partnered with our Zeiss Optical coherence tomographer provides a powerful combination in the diagnosis of Glaucoma. | READ MORE

Zeiss Photo Oct

This is a relatively new addition to the clinic and has quickly taken the mantle of the instrument which has revolutionised clinical care in the modern era. Most people are familiar with retinal digital imaging, and with the OCT, which takes a 2 dimensional ‘bird’s eye’ view and adds a 3 dimensional component by scanning below the retina, with cross sectional imaging. It has become the standard of care for all retinal diseases such as macular degeneration and diabetes as well as having a major role in Glaucoma management as it can identify and quantify loss within the optic nerve. Our Zeiss Forum* software combines the OCT and Humphrey visual field analyser results to produce ‘state of the art’ statistical analysis, capable of graphing progression of eye disease. | READ MORE

Canon Retinal and Anterior Eye Digital Imaging

This has been available at Eyes & Optics since 2006 and has proven to be one of the most useful tools for identifying change in the health of the eyes. I liken it to a ‘mole map’ when dermatologists photograph patients’ skin. Retinal and anterior eye imaging tracks changes in landmarks within the retina, or ‘film’ of the eye with the macula, optic nerve and blood vessels being the most noteworthy. One other advantage is the capability of emailing these images to source specialist Ophthalmological opinion.
